Swimming lessons for babies,
children & adults
Rosie’s Rainbow Fishes promotes
the teaching of safe swimming techniques
to all ages.
We want to help everyone from
complete beginners to competitive
swimmers from birth to 100 year olds.
At Rosie’s Rainbow Fishes we want to give children and adults a love of swimming that all our instructors have.
For the children safety is paramount; from safe entries into
For adults our aim is broad. We want to help the adult who never had swimming lessons to overcome fear of water, we want to teach adults who aren’t fearful of water but just don’t know how to swim a proper stroke and we can also provide ad hoc lessons to help with specific stroke techniques to assist with other activities such as triathlons, physiotherapy or general fitness.
OUR SWIMMING INSTRUCTORS
We currently have 6 teachers working for Rosie’s Rainbow Fishes. All teachers are trained in the same technique and methodology meaning that clients can swap between teachers without worry of confusing their children. We regularly speak to each other about

OUR SERVICES
121 lessons for children aged 4yrs old and above
We offer 30 minute 121 lessons for children aged 4 years old and above after school and weekends. These lessons are 100% focussed on the needs of the individual learner and no adult is needed to be in the water. We teach children from complete beginner up to Swim England Stage 7. The teacher will be in the water throughout the lesson providing support and demonstrations where necessary.
221 lessons for children aged 4 years old and above
We offer 30 minute 221 lessons for children aged 4 years old and above after school and weekends. It is possible to teach children of different levels in these 221 classes, for example where we have siblings but ideally we try to match up children of similar levels. For children under Stage 4 a parent or adult is required to be in the water.
Adult lessons
We offer 30 minute 121 lessons for adults during the day on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesdays. These lessons are for all levels – from the nervous beginner to the confident swimmer who wants to improve their stroke technique. These lessons are 100% focussed on the needs of the individual learner. These lessons can be 221 if you have a friend or partner that you want to share with.
Baby and toddler lessons
We offer small group classes on Monday and Thursdays for babies, toddlers and pre-school children. These classes have a maximum of 4 children in a class with an adult per child in the water. We also offer 121 and 221 lessons during the day. These can be for siblings of different ages, friends or we can help match you with a child of a similar age. A parent / adult needs to be in the water with each child.
Rookie Lifeguard
For our children who have passed Stage 5 or above, we offer Rookie Lifeguard / Stroke Clinic lessons. One week we follow the RLSS Rookie Lifeguard programme, learning lifesaving skills and working through the Bronze, Silver and Gold awards. The alternate week we focus on one stroke and general swimming skills towards the next swimming stage.
WHAT DO WE DO IN LESSONS?
During the first
From the start we teach all children front crawl, we do not teach a traditional head up doggy paddle, even to our babies, toddlers and pre-schoolers we believe that children will swim stronger, faster and safer by swimming full front crawl from the beginning.
We teach the children how to swim with their faces in the water and to roll from their front to their back when they need to breathe. This is a common technique used in USA and Australia where families often have home swimming pools so water safety is vital but not so commonly taught in the UK. By teaching children to roll over onto their backs to recover and rest we are teaching them how to save their lives in water.
Front crawl along with back stroke are the main focus to start with and once they can swim 5 metres on each stroke we start to introduce breaststoke. In addition to teaching swimming strokes we also teach lot of other swimming skills in line with the Swim England awards.
This includes push and glides, submersions, climbing in and jumping in safely, floating and most children’s favourite game collecting sinkies from the bottom of the pool.
Once children have mastered the rolling technique it leads beautifully into the progression of side breathing as they just need to learn to not roll fully over and just to turn their heads to the side. The ability to do this is often limited by pure strength, especially in our younger swimmers.
We are accredited to Swim England and work towards all distances from 5m to 1000m and Stages 1-6. The company is covered by Howdens business insurance plus each teacher has individual IoS insurance. All our instructors are fully qualified swimming teachers with lifeguard and basic first aid qualifications.
